LAR syndrome sufferers -- beware of sucralose/Splenda

Postby chrisca » Sun Jul 07, 2019 4:03 pm

I've posted here before that sugar alcohols (sorbitol, mannitol, erythritol, maltitol, and xylitol) can aggravate LAR syndrome by causing gut cramping. They increase stool fragmentation & result in longer, more painful BMs with more stress on the anorectal tissue, aggravating hemorrhoids & causing rectal bleeding. Add to this list sucralose. It isn't same chemically but is instead a chlorinated sucrose molecule. However, after inadvertently consuming it in some "reduced sugar" dried cranberries, I can vouch that it also has a similar effect. Try eliminating sucralose if you have LAR syndrome & see if it helps.

Just a quick bump up here :

AND some are toxic to pets Xylitol and Your Dog: Danger, Paws Off
AND cause concerns for human health and insulin resistance Evidence suggesting artificial sweeteners may be harmful should give us pause

AND my fave reason for avoiding them all ? ..... they ALL taste like shit
seriously, any artifcial sweetener tastes like crap to me, so maybe I am blessed with a "cat like" sense of taste avoidance ????
Sugar alcohols are likely just as problematic for cats, as dogs ... BUTT cats are too finicky and just won't eat the stuff.

Cheers

I have eliminated all the artificial sweeteners and now use plain sugar (sucrose) only. Also, I have eliminated olive oil which would cause uncontrollable diarrhea and many embarrassing moments. Unfortunately, it took me a few years before I realized it was the cause of my severe problem.
