So my hubby got his APR surgery on the 12 and everything went extremely well. It took the surgeon 3 hours instead of 4 as he is a very healthy and fit guy. My husband opted for a permanent colostomy as his tumor was really really low and he did not want to have a second surgery or issues after his reversal like 90% of the people. I think the colostomy is only a small price to pay to get rid of the cancer.
The surgeon told us that he had an AMAZING response to chemorad, in fact the tumor completely melted and only scar tissue was left.
My question is for people who had that surgery ...how long did the recovery take ? Do you have any tips or advices? I know it's gonna be a long one and I feel bad for him because he is a very active guy (borderline hyper lol) and not being able to move much and do physical stuff is gonna drive him nuts!!
