Neurontin/gabapentin for CIPN

Postby RichieTheK » Fri May 24, 2019 1:11 pm

My PCP has recommended Neurontin (gabapentin) for my chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN). I researched this drug but found no references to CIPN, just diabetic neuropathy in the feet. I would like some relief for the neuropathy in my hands.

If anyone here has used Neurontin for CIPN, please let me know how effective it was.

Hi Richie,

My husband still has terrible neuropathy in his feet and hand from last year's Xelox treatment. He's taking 300mg of Gabapentin 3 times a day and that seems to help, somewhat, although not completely - his feet in particular are quite painful. But it does seem to help with his hands.

Good luck,

Also, he hasn't had any side effects from all this Gabapentin... So I'd say it's worth a try!

Yes. It's helped me immensely. I take 500mg 3x/day. I definitely recommend it. I haven't noticed any side effects, been on it since I stopped chemo almost 7(?) years ago.
