A forum suggestion - including location in Signatures

Hi all,

Something I’ve come to notice is that both the approaches to treatment, and also the treatments available, can vary fairly significantly by country. There can also be considerations around access to care (eg health insurance in the US, NHS in the UK, Medicare in Australia) which may need to be factored in.

I wonder hence if it might be helpful to recommend including your location in forum signatures. Just country-level is probably sufficient given most folk would likely consider some domestic travel for treatments (although US patients may want to include their state as well).

Thanks,
Rob

While I see nothing wrong with your suggestion,
I do know some folks may not wish to post too many "specific" personal details in an online forum,
so I would suggest keeping any signature entries generic.

Actually the reason I started the topic: Calling ALL Colorectal CANUCKS !
was just for that very reason you stated :
this is a US based discussion forum ....
BUTT ... we have members from everywhere around the world
AND ... ColoRectal Canucks had specific healthcare considerations which were not always directly referable to the US situation.

Cheers
CRguy

Absolutely agree CRguy - would be entirely voluntary of course, and only suggest at a level which wouldn’t jeopardise anonymity.

I guess another option would be to have folks add their "LOCATION"
in the User Control Panel under
Profile / Edit Profile

ucp.php?i=ucp_profile&mode=profile_info

Using the location field makes sense to me, since the signatures already can get too long for the forum software's peace of mind.

I like at least a relative location as it does pertain to coverage and the hospitals available. My approach is to put it in my username.

I also won’t bring up the date formatting issue, but given I’m VASTLY outnumbered here I’m happy to comply with my American friends :)

You made me laugh about the date . I did not realise till I jointed here and though it was a typo . But as you say we are vastly outnumbered on that one . Ha .

I had guessed that NH stood for New Hampshire! I don't think I could use my state's abbreviation in my name because I'm in Maryland. For the non-US folks, the abbreviation is MD. Wouldn't want people to think I'm a medical doctor; I'm not! :)
