Positive occult blood test

Dear all,
I am a 24 year-old female and I've been having a dull pain on my left side for about 8 months now. It is almost like I could feel something there grabbing my flank, like something constantly kind of pushing. My bowel movements have not changed but I have abdominal pain; I do have problems when passing gas and I find myself every once in a while straining to have a BM (I sometimes need to push my buttock to one side) but not diarrhea or proper constipation. I have had several ultrasounds but nothing has been found. My doctor prescribed an occult blood test and I tested positive for one of the three samples I provided.
I am sure of one thing: there is a bulge coming out my rectum (not my anus) when I have a BM and I have a thrombosed hemorrhoid. I am writting to know if someone has had a similar experience:
- Could a polyp/cancer be causing this?
- Could an internal hemorrhoid/prolapse be the cause for that positive?
- Do you reckon my doctor will refer me for a colonoscopy/CT scan?
I am very scared because the pain does not gone away and I have read that occult blood in stool is not good news. Thank you.
