He went thru a LOTTA stuff with his post-resection / take down issues ...

Ok so he only recalls taking an "anti-depressant" as I discussed in this prior topic
at the bottom of the page (( SSRI drugs like Celexa / citalopram )) where their side effects work in your favor with LARS !!

viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2888&p=18763

The drug you mention, hyoscyamine, is an anticholinergic = totally different class of drugs.
Antispasmodic and antiulcer action
blocking / decreasing GIT motility
and gastric acid secretions.

Again ... NO personal patient experience ... :(
BUTT webmd has a decent overview of the drug
https://www.webmd.com/drugs/2/drug-1376 ... al/details

basically it wants to SLOW down the GIT issues we get from LARS

bottom line = you need to keep hydrated, read the side EFX lists and get your Docs on board
with ANY issues or questions !!!!!

WORD

Best wishes and Harmony

Thank you so much for all the research, CRG!
I didn't realize it is an anit-cholinergic, as is immodium-- I wanted off of those, which is why I went the enema route.
So, I guess I will continue with my drug-free, hydro lifestyle!

Sorry for the delayed response. Spring finally arrived in Rochester, NY so I have been on the computer less.
Best to you!

Jane

wife takes hyoscyamine for non-cancer gastro issues. considers it her lifeline drug as it calms the "caffein jitters" that her IBS gives her. Takes as needed and has used it for about 8 years.

I was given Questran for severe diarrhea after gall bladder removal. I've mentioned it to a few people with LAR, their docs have Rx'd it and they've had good results with it. You have to tweak the dosage....too much and you're super constipated. Not enough and it doesn't do the job.

I know one person who took if for LARS but took the whole dose split over the course of the day and it worked miracles for her. Another person used it just once a day. It is one of those drugs you have to experiment with. I haven't personally taken it now in a long time. Back then, it came in a 'crystal' form that you mixed with liquid. Originally, the drug was used to help lower cholesterol but it also has another use....that for severe diarrhea by binding with excess bile salts in the intestines. It is certainly worth a try but you do have to be patient with it. One problem is the dosage is meant for people with high cholesterol (it is a really old cholesterol lowering drug) so, as I mentioned earlier, you have to play around with it. You certainly wouldn't necessarily need the full dose just for diarrhea control.
