CT, PET scan

Postby natelaugh » Tue Apr 09, 2019 11:26 am

Hi,

CT and PET scan are used for detection. However, do these scan cause the cancer to return because of the radiation?

Thanks,
Nate.

They don't exactly cause the cancer to return (colon rectal cancer), butt it can "possible" cause a "new" type of cancer that can show up in about 10-20 years. Many people feel they "hope" they live long enough to get that "possible" 2nd cancer. Thus they want the screening to be ahead of any possible new met or recurrence.

For what it's worth, I'm coming up on 15yrs survivors ship and I'm one of those people who wanted the screening. I'm cancer free today.

Hope this helps,
