Right vs Left colon

Postby natelaugh » Sun Apr 07, 2019 10:18 pm

Hi,

I read that right colon cancer is harder to cure than left colon cancer. Any experience/thought on this?

Thanks,
Nate.

Most people are not right sided CRC. One way to use this site is to trawl through the histories.

Previous stories can be scary but they are a way to identify problems and hurdles earlier, without smacking into them personally. Addressing problems early can remove or ameliorate those often left for later as a surprise. If you indexed and outlined your right sided finds here it might help generate discussion with other RHS patients and old timers.
watchful, active researcher and caregiver for stage IVb/c CC. surgeries 4/10 sigmoid etc & 5/11 para-aortic LN cluster; 8 yrs immuno-Chemo for mCRC; now no chemo
most of 2010 Life Extension recommendations and possibilities + more, some (much) higher, peaking ~2011-12, taper chemo to almost nothing mid 2018, IV C-->2021. Now supplements

I’m 10 years out from a stage 2 right sided colon cancer that I did not do chemo for. 10 years ago, I heard right sided cancer was a better diagnosis. Data changes. IMO every case is different.
2/10 dx colon cancer
right hemicolectomy 3/19/10
Stage 2a 0/43 nodes
Lynch syndrome
3/14/10 colon resection/ removal of metal clips
Nov 11 dx ovarian cancer

Latest research shows no significant differences in the treatment responses for right-sided tumors compared with left-sided tumors, including or excluding the rectum. However, patients suffering from left-sided CC were revealed to exhibit better clinical outcomes compared with patients suffering from right-sided CC when molecularly-targeted agent regimens were administered.

Welcome....I am right sided too....When I met with my onc, we discussed the bilogical difference between right and left (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5768473/). In stages I-III, chemo is the same for both sides; however, if a right sided I-III. has a recurrence (now stage IV), it limits chemo agents because some do not work on right sided and I would be limited on what they can use. My oncologist told me that if I had a recurrence, they would be less options for chemo agents. Pathology needs to be done at a major cancer center....many Stage II have had a different pathology outcome when they sought out a second opinion...viewtopic.php?f=1&t=60639&start=15

You need to advocate for yourself and make sure that you get ALL the information needed to make a decision. Current research is suggesting that Stage II right sided has a better prognosis than left sided. Stage III does not.

Thank you for providing supporting evidence on the right colon vs. left colon issue. However, three of the links that you provided are invalid and need to be corrected.

A correct representation of a URL on this message board generally requires that the URL be enclosed by the bracketed [ URL ] and [ /URL ] tags. If they aren't enclosed by the bracketed URL tags, then the longer URLs are truncated to 50 character limit and the missing parts of the URL are replaced by three dots: . . . But this causes the URL to become invalid and unreadable.

FYI, Here are three valid URLs that you can use to replace the three invalid ones in your original post:
