Well this is interesting

Postby Gravelyguy » Wed Mar 27, 2019 12:26 pm

7:30 last night my abdomen started hurting, by 1 am and after several Tylenol PMs and OxyCodone. I could bear the pain no more, I headed to the ER.

I have never had a bowel blockage but assumed it was, only to find out it is gall stones.

I have gone through my share of things over the past couple of years including kidney stones just after my last round of chemo but nothing, I mean nothing, compared to that pain.

I was told by the ER Dr. that the local surgeon could do it laparoscopicly and I should be home tonight.

After visiting with the surgeon and him reading the notes from my combo resections, he decided that he would rather not open me up and then discover an issue he wasn’t prepared for. He was mainly concerned about with my liver as they had resected right in front of where the gallbladder is. They do not do liver surgery locally.

So I find my way in the back of an ambulance (for the first time) heading down to my friends at Mayo. A 3, very bumpy, hour ride.

So glad for good pain meds.

Oh the joy!

Hi all,

Thanks for the well wishes. Other than having to switch from a laparoscopic surgery to an open one mid surgery all went well. The gallbladder was definitely the culprit. The lead resident surgeon assisted on the original surgery and remembered me.

I didn’t get done with surgery and to my room until after 10 but am feeling up to being discharged today!

Don't forget to ask for your stones so you can take them home and
mount them over the fireplace...

I had a lap cholecystectomy back in 1994 and the recovery pain was somewhat
worse and lasted longer than the pain from the open right hemi I had in 2015.

Wishing you a strong recovery and your body not making any more stones
behind your back!
