Yup! Trying to build up a freezer stash in the next few weeks. I nursed all my babies at least a year, some a little longer. So the thought of swapping to formula and bottle feeding is outside of my skillset! But, in the long run he needs his mommy cancer free more than he needs to be exclusively breastfed. We'll figure it out!

I don't know where you live, or even if you are open to this, but if you are, contact your local LLL and see if they have contacts with a BM donation bank. Your case is exactly what those milk banks are for!

And after reading your signature, have you considered going to MSKCC and seeing Dr. Kemeny? you sound like you could be a prime candidate for the HAI pump and possibly surgery. It is best to get in on the ground floor with treatments. A lot of people seek her out after a recurrence, but starting with her for the initial chemo is best. I know you have a lot going on in your house (we have three boys, so too much testosterone here!). Best of luck to you and enjoy that sweet baby.

You guys are all so swell!! :D

Had an appointment with the oncologist today and took Nicholas with me. Everyone swooned over him! The entire clinic from the receptionist, to the lab to the oncologist to the social worker were thrilled that he made it to term. Lots of people have been following our case pretty closely.

Get my port placed this Friday, CT scan as well. Will be my first one, hoping for no surprises. Chemo starts 4/16.

I might be a little bit terrified because it's actually here now.

In other news, Nicholas was 6.12 last Friday and today his goal weight was 7.1 My little porker was 7.7! 10 ounces in 5 days!!

The average newborn gains 2/3 to 1 ounce a day, so he is double that number! He sounds like one healthy baby! :D :D :D

About your port, try to get a PowerPort if you can (just ask for one that can be used for CT scans as well as chemo). It makes it so much easier down the line.

Sending good thoughts for the port placement and CT scan on Friday!

The running joke with all the other kids was I don't make milk, I make cream. However, with our nursing relationship being cut so short, I decided today would be a perfect day to see if he would take a bottle and tolerate formula. He had no issues taking it from me and so far, no tummy troubles. So it's good to know that hopefully won't be too hard of a transition for him.

CT has to be rescheduled as it conflicted with port placement. They are going to call me back with my new appointment time. I know I shouldn't complain about a 2hr drive to the hospital, but I am anyway. That's 4 hours of just being in the car!

Amy,

First off, congratulations! I was diagnosed with stage 4, mets to my liver, when my daughter was just weeks old. Those new born cuddles were the very best medicine!

I know someone mentioned it previously, but we used breastmilk banks and I am forever grateful for them. It was a small condolence for not being able to breastfeed her for longer. Additionally, my daughter has always been so healthy! She’s four, and still hasn’t ever been really sick. We joke it’s from all the different antibodies she was exposed to during her breastmilk months.

Sending prayers for your CT scan and a clear treatment path! Keep up the good fight mama, you got this!!
