Jings ...you can’t win . I love my tea . Constant flow . It kind of makes some sense but I have never heard it before . Thankfully I am easily distracted and often find a few tasks to do before I start drinking . But I have it a lot !!

So I guess soup is the same !!

Trying to think how I will be warming up in winter here ! Skin cancer rates are lower right enough . Not so much sun .

I love my cuppa tea. That’s the Anglophile in me!

I actually learned about this around three years ago when I started drinking Morning Thunder tea which is a combination of black tea and mate. I wanted to make sure mate was not harmful, and there was research done about the prevalence of esophageal cancer among mate drinkers. The research concluded that the fact that mate is most often drunk at extremely high temperatures was a possible cause and not any compound in the mate itself.

This info has been around for a while concerning ANY super hot beverage WRT esopagheal cancer.
Seems the constant assaults on the mucosal layers causes a dysplasia which can progress to neoplasia.

Pinky Test :
we were told to dip the tip of the little finger into the liquid, to the level of your fingernail bed.
If you can keep it there, the temperature is probably OK,
IF it is too hot for your pinky = TOO HOT for the esophagus.

Now that was before chemo neuropathy .... SO ....
YMMV !
Cheers

BS, most of England and their colonies would be hotspots of cancer, I’m sure they fall in line with the average.

Isn’t it ironic that the chemo used to treat colon cancer basically forces you to drink warm/hot drinks? Lol

Styrofoam cups are slightly carcinogenic. Hot anything is styrofoam is a risk for us.
Funny, the Cancer Center and the NCI hospital only offer you styrofoam cups.....

Since I’ve had cancer I eliminate the smallest risks, like styrofoam.

However, green tea is likely an anti-cancer agent. Coffee repeatedly is found to be OK.

Many many years ago, (1980's), I was told to stop drinking coffee or no more than 1 cup a day as it was "suppose" to cause breast cancer. A few years back, I'm at the GYN, and they are asking about my coffee consumption. I said I drink about 1 to 1/2 cups a day, I was told to bump it up to 2 cups a day  . It seems coffee is now good for you now.

Go figure,

Lee
