Affects of antibotics on blood work during survellance

Postby Beckster » Sat Feb 23, 2019 4:45 pm

Hi everyone!

Looking for some insight on how Clindamycin affects blood work, especially CEA and Liver function tests. I have not been on any antibotics since my surgery 2 years ago. Recently, my dentist put me on 300 mg of Clindamycin 2 times a day for 7 days for a possible tooth infection. I have my bloodwork scheduled for my onc appt on March 11th. Is there anyone with some insight on how this can affect my blood work? You know how anxious we get about our CEA levels! Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Beckster,

I can't speak specifically to Clindamycin, but I was on massive amounts of antibiotics for an entire year as a result of a bacterial infection that started in my lung and spread to my brain. I did 2,000mg of Ceftriaxone by IV twice a day for 3 months, then switched over to five 960mg Bactrim pills a day 9 months. No effect on CEA but took my white blood count so low I had to be on Neulasta the entire time I was on it.

Thanks Hiker! My dentist told me to tell my onc that it might affect my bloodwork...so I am happy to hear that CEA did not change for you.
