Scared I have colon cancer at 17

Postby 101010 » Sat Feb 23, 2019 8:42 am

I’m a 17 year old female and started having gastrointestinal problems like constipation and bloating about a year ago and it’s progressed into me being constipated with thin stool, diarrhea, blood in stool, mucus in stool, stomach discomfort, feeling my bowels haven’t emptied and sometimes urinary Incontinece. I’ve been the the doctors countless times over the year and they’d usually just brush me off with hemorrhoids and ibs without examining me and would give me laxatives that DO NOT WORK. I’ve finally gotten them to take me seriously and have a cat scan on Tuesday and I’m honestly terrified of what it can be as I’m young and obviously don’t want to get sick and die. Any ideas?

Hi, So sorry for what you are going through. Do get that cat scan, but I would also really push for a colonoscopy. That will give you a true diagnoses of what is causing your symptoms. Please understand, many things could be causing your symptoms, cancer is just one possibility. By the fact that you have passed blood, a colonoscopy should be done regardless of age.

Does colon cancer fun in your family?

Try not to worry, avoid Dr. Google, ask any and all questions here.

Good luck,

Lee

I don’t know if this will comfort you at all but hardness in you abdomen area can be due to gas buildup. :)

Do get it checked out, but there is a good chance it's IBS since it tends to run in the family. For what it is worth, my mother ended up in the ER, serious stomach pain and rectal bleeding. They did a colonoscopy, no cancer, not even one polyps, just a bad case of diverticulosis. Me I had no symptoms, no pain, no hardness, no constipation. All my blood work was good. In the end, my PCP figured my bleeding hemorrhoids were going to be my excuse for getting my colonoscopy early in life. My signature line tells the rest of my journey

Please push for that colonoscopy, that will give you a true diagnoses if anything is going on, anything else is just a speculation and your life is worth more than a simple speculation.

If it is determined you have IBS, my understand it is caused by inflammation, thus you will need to be scoped earlier in life than the average person and more often, as inflammation can lead to colon cancer, Please keep this in the back of your mind as FYI info only.

Just remember you are not alone here, we get what you are feeling right now. Please vent any fears or frustration here as this forum is a wealth of information and support.

Keep us posted,

Thank you for your replies, after I posted I ended up finding a sausage like lump in this hard area, can constipation cause this?
