Bowel Movement Frequency

Postby JenK » Sun Feb 17, 2019 2:41 pm

How often “should” I be going?

I was just given an NED in January after treatment for low rectal cancer, stage 3A. I’m in a Watch and Watch Study, as opposed to a permanent colostomy. Phew.

Prior to being diagnosed, my “normal” was every few days. Been that way my entire life. My GI doesn’t like that and has me taking Metamucil AND a double dose of Maalox powder everyday. He wants me going everyday. I’m finding that my body is trying to go back to its “normal” prior to being diagnosed..... especially if I go a few days without taking the supplements. Btw, I’m soooo tired of taking to dang supplements.

I’ve always had a very clean diet but even with adding extra high fiber grains and veggies... I find that my body wants to do its own thing.

Thoughts? Thank you!

I'm wondering if the high fiber is causing the problem. Maybe try a low fiber diet for a couple of weeks and see it that helps. Spinach and greens will have me going in an hour or less. Butt I do have the bag. Radiation destroyed most of my rectal muscles and I had no control.

Good luck, with the Watch and Wait approach.

Thank you Lee.

I do have days of low fiber (like when I don’t get to meal prep). I put spinach in my vegan shakes.... no effect!! Lol

We’re you told to stop eating meat? Two of my docs told me no more meat.

Ain't gonna happen. I'm a 4th generation from Montana (I live in Arizona today), butt I grew up on some pretty awesome home grown beef. Yes I eat more chicken today, butt I still love a good steak!! My DH eats beef all the time, and he is probably healthier than I am

I need the protein that I get from meat. I could not survive on a vegan diet.
