Yet another question (sorry). Is it still possible to get colon cancer even if No one else in your family has ever had it?

Absolutely. My husband has colon cancer but he does not have any inherited genetic mutations. His genomic testing report says, "There could be a mutation in your family, causing cancers in other family members, but you did not inherit it."

I also had genetic testing that showed nothing and there are no others in my family that have had it (at least in recent history).

Me too. No family history of colon cancer that we have found.

Someone here who had been diagnosed asked her surgeon, why me. He responded, half is genetic, half is just dumb luck.

When do you get your pathology report?

Just want to add—you can use your abnormal colonoscopy as an excuse to push your family members to get scoped as well. We don’t know all genetic or environmental factors that lead to CRC, but with the rise in young onset CRC, having a reason to get a screening can be a literal lifesaver.
