5FU ineffective against tp53 mutation

Postby mpbser » Thu Jan 31, 2019 10:12 am

For a long time, I have been interested in comments I have seen on this forum about the ineffectiveness of standard chemo against the tp53 mutation. I had been under the impression that that applied to those with inherited tp53 mutation but I never did enough reading to firmly conclude that this was accurate. My husband has no known inherited mutations but his primary tumor definitely had tp53 among a couple others. So, this lead me to wondering if, since 5FU is ineffective against the tp53 mutation (https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2 ... 082124.htm), it was the Ox- that he responded so well to and not the Xeloda/5FU when he did XELOX.

rp1954, since your wife only did Xeloda and no Ox-, I am wondering what her genomic testing results were. Does she have any inherited mutations? Was tp53 mutation present in her tumor?
