well just got the paper and it just say the normal range is 5.0 it doesn't say what method is being used. April cea 5.3 may cea 6.1
new lung x ray showed no cancer new mri may 2019 was all clear.
I should be happy with the results but I keep feeling it's not normal and something is going to happen I hope it's just demons in my head.

Hi ,
I understand I am wondering if age is a factor though . Other inflammatory processes in the body . After staying at 5:4 for six months my mum’s dropped back down to 4 something . Her oncologist said CEA is no longer a reliable marker for her as other things are influencing it . She had two CT scans during that time which were clear .

2016 lung resection
Oct 2017 nice clear scan . Two lung nodules disappeared
Oct 2018. Another clear scan .

The oncologist said to us. (the thing is you can find 100 different reasons on the internet why cea goes up.
the human body is constantly changing as long as the cea stays within a certain range 5.0 to 10.0 it can be anything which is not related to cancer.
Cea is just one of the test used but it's not the definitive proof only scans can prove if you have cancer as long as they are clean you shouldn't worry. )
despite her reassuring words I'm still left wondering.
my mom will have her cea rechecked in 6 weeks and she will have a new colonoscopy in October only time will tell what the future will hold.

Emile,

I'm in the same situation. In March my CEA was 7.5 and in April a 9.4. I've had a CT and MRI which reveal nothing. I also had a Colvera test come back negative. My doctor doesn't believe in PET SCANs so I'm headed to get another opinion. My fear is it has returned and they haven't found it yet.
5/16 - Diagnosed Stage 3B. 5/11 LN involvement.
6/16 - 12/16 - FOLFOX.
12/16 - 6/19 - NED
7/2019 – peritoneum involvement. 8 rounds of FOLFOXFIRI.
1/2020 – CRS/HIPEC performed.
4/2020 – 4 rounds of FOLFOX.
7/2020 - Rise in CEA. Started Avastin/Xeloda 10-15 lung nodules.
11/2022– FOLFIRI after CEA was rising
