Need Advice -

Postby ronaldo » Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:12 pm

I have just had a liver resection and was told they got all cancer with clear margins.
I went to see surgeon for sigmoid surgery last week and was told that there was NED in Colon.

My case was being refered to MDT yesterday.

Spoke to the specialist nurse today after the MDT.

They are offering laproscopic surgery to resect the colon and they have me sceduled for pre operative check after 3 weeks (need to recover from Liver op).

I was also told I could opt to have the colon monitored going forward and not have surgery.

What I would like to know is what would be considered the best option. Operation or Observation?

I am pretty sure that resection offers the best option for a cure but also know that this offers the potential for a stoma

Can anyone offer me any advice? At the moment I am thinking Op.

Thanks very much for any help and advice you can give.

I had an enormous tumor in my sigmoid colon and was almost completely obstructed. I had laparoscopic surgery, clear margins and both ends went back together with zero issues.

I was told that if I needed any sort of colostomy it would only be temporary while my tissues healed enough to reattach.

Not sure if your situation is similar, but I didn't have any complaints at all with my resection. I was also 11 weeks pregnant when it was done and had no pain meds other than tylenol. I was walking the halls a few hours after surgery!

How did they do your liver resection? Was that an open abdominal operation? I currently have 1 met to the liver (that I know of) and the plan for me is chemo after I deliver followed by resection but no one has told me how that's done!

I can totally understand wanting to avoid a stoma but I would Need to compare the recurrence stats with the two groups before I would op to go down the observation route . Can your surgeon provide some ?
