Which is correct ? PET or MR

Postby Educator » Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:52 am

hello, my husband's pet result came out today. There are 1.4 and 1.7 metastases in the liver. The last MRI was between 12-15. we're very confused. I was good for this result , but MR is important. Is there such a situation living?

Hey Educator,

When was the MRI done that showed 12-15 mets? If you're husband is currently on chemo and it's been some time sine the MRI was done, then the other 10-13 mets could have been wiped out by the chemo.

Can you provide a little more info?

Ok . First pet ct shows 1 met ( before chemo)
1. MR Showed 1-4 mets and he took chemo 6 rounds
2. Pet CT shows NED
2.MR shows 1-4 mets same
And chemo( he used vectibix) again when the 12 rounds chemo finished PET CT shows NED but mr shows lots of mets (spot little) 15 mets then we changed hospital and new onc gave 6 rounds chemo new pet ct shows 2 mets . He will want MR again. But sometimes has pain in his right side . Hıs onc maybe decided immunoterapy . I hope .

I'm not 100% sure what's going on, but if something is showing up on the MRI but not lighting up on the PET it could mean that they were never mets to begin with or they were mets and the chemo wiped them out. They could just be dead tumors.

Where is your husband being treated? I'm gonna jump out on a limb here and assume you're not from the US.

I have an annomally in my lungs that has been there for the total of 8 years. The CT always picksit up but the PET shows no uptake . As far as I'm concerned thats NED .

I believe you state that his oncologist doesn't recommend surgery at this point. Has he been seen by an actual liver surgeon? An oncologist should never make surgery decisions and likewise a surgeon should never provide chemo recommendations.

Sorry I can't provide any input on the abdominal pain. When I had liver mets, I had no pain whatsoever. I would imagine that some type of inflammation would be painful.
