How long on Xeloda?

Postby kandj » Fri Jan 04, 2019 3:42 pm

DH had a small met removed from lung at the end of November. He was supposed to have an ablation done but they couldn't see the met clear enough so they did a wedge resection instead the next day. I am happier about that, to be honest, as I know it was cut out and done with. Recovery has been very good. DH just started his third round of Xeloda. How many rounds did you do if you did Xeloda as a mop up? There was a second nodule that has been there the whole time and not changed. They were going to take it out too but the surgeon looked at it and said it was just a lymph node and not suspicious so he left it. Liver has looked good so far from his SRBT in Dec of 2017. Fingers crossed it stays that way.
wife to DH, dx 8/15 stage IV @36, 12+ liver Mets
HAI placed 12/15
Liver resect 5/19/2016 15-20 mets (surgeon lost count)

Adrenal ablation 2/20 VATS 3/20

7/2023 proton therapy: liver
140+ rounds of chemo and counting

my case is different- but I will try to give an idea of my Xeloda treatment.
A met showed up at the beginning of 2015, two and a half years after surgery, which was NOT followed by chemo.
Had 8 3-weekly sessions of Folfox with Avastin- great result: NED ; immediately followed with the same routine, without the Oxaliplatin.
That is, the pills and an Avastin infusion every 3 weeks. The Avastin was stopped in April 2018, due to some nasty renal side effects. Still on Xeloda.
The plan is to keep me on "maintenance chemo" as long as the medication is working, that is to say, there is no recurrence.
Of course nobody has a clue for how long the Xeloda will be working. (1 month? 1 year? 10 years?-nobody has an idea)

I have a follow up visit every six weeks, and a CAT scan every 3 months.
Of course I am happy to take the pills= they keep the disease under control.
Hope this was useful.Have a good new year

3/13 Sigmoid Colon Hemicolectomy,( 12"+)
3/13 Pathology Staging: T1N0M0; no follow-up chemo
5/15 Recurrence: in pre-sacral space -no other mets detected (Instantly became Stage IV)
5/15 Started 8 sessions of Folfox + Avastin
11/15 Finished chemo, PET/CT: NED
11/15 Started Xeloda+ Avastin every 3 weeks. Still Doing it.
Still NED -(Hope treatment keeps working)

Hello again:
forgot to add:
If you search carefully on the Web, there are some clinical trials (unfortunately not very many) on maintenance chemo with Xeloda.
