Rough time after 6 month Follow ups/ibs

Postby tee34 » Sat Dec 29, 2018 4:58 am

Male, Diagnosed stage 3 b colo rectal adenocarcinoma July 17 at 42
Chemo and xeloda and Rad Sept 17, Had the LAR Late Nov 17 then had my chemo and reversal Early july 18

I had my 6 month follow ups, Flex sig late November and then CT scan mid Dec and attempted a colonoscopy that week due to some legal nonsense of having a chaperone home, not a ride service.
The two saline solutuions for flushing my system for the exam irrittated my system as i got things running htrough me in 2 hours typical IBS symtoms.

then a week later my attempt at 3 day prep for the aborted colonoscopy with clear fluids , then the gavilite prep, which after i got home famished and i ate too much too soon and with no stomach acid from the prep promptly ate too much and got a bowel obstruction or blockage and a trip to the ER, which, finally i started to pass again about a few minutes before they were going to run a tube down my nose to clear everything, still didnt clear completely for a few more days.

Well since then its either im too slow and stopped up or IBS type issues.. i have cut back on my Metamucial from a table spoon every 12 hours to just a table spoon every 24 hours, to a teaspoon , 2 times a day, i am scheduling GI visit this week or next, the CT scan was ok for them as they did not see anything except slight diverticulosis which is different from itis.

Thanks!

Hi
You may possibly have LARS (Low Anterior Resection Syndrome ). There is a Facebook support group called 'Living with Low Anterior Resection Syndrome' that may be helpful.
Best wishes for improvement.

Not sure if its LAR syndrome ( but never knew about it thank you) was doing a lot better after i was allowed to take psyllium husk or Metamucil 6 weeks after reversal, that cleared up 90 to 95 percent of my accidents,
it was after the saline enemas for the flex sig late november and the prep for the colonoscopy with gavilite a week or two later along with Iron intake activities like cooking in a Iron skillet.
This seems to all relate to that, actually its better that im slower as its more manageable, but otherwise i said ill see a GI person and or get the colonoscopy scheduled.
