Reversed!

Postby newyorkgolfer » Sat Dec 22, 2018 2:05 pm

Hi All, I'm a new member but have been reading the posts on these boards since I had emergency surgery for a blocked bowel and perforation in May, 2018. I had so much trouble with getting a bag to fit me that I combed the internet for solutions. I couldn't find any until I visited Mount Sinai Ostomy clinic in NYC where the nurses were so brilliant, I never had another problem with the bag again. They custom fit me for my stoma. I felt incredibly lucky to find them. I was reversed on 12/5/18, discharged on 12/6 only to return to the hospital with an Ileus which made me violently ill. After another 4 nights in the hospital, I was finally allowed to go home after I had my first bowel movement. Since my return home, I have had nothing but formed stools, no diarrhea and no pain. I wanted to share this story with others who may read some of the more unfortunate stories regarding reversal. I feel like a new woman, going to the bathroom normally and eating what I want! BTW, the first thing I ate after getting the approval of my doctor to eat anything again, was an apple with its skin. How fabulous is that?

I had surgery and 3 weeks later got reversed, I wasn't a good candidate for the stoma. The surgeon also kinked my what was left of my colon, causing severe problems . I could and still can eat anything, as long as I stay close to a depository .

That is fantastic! My husband was in the hospital for five days for his reversal, so seeing you were initially released after one day boggles my mind! I’m sorry you had an issue but glad it turned out OK. Ever since reversal he’s been doing well like you, I was so afraid he would have a lot of issues.

Also I wish we knew about getting bags custom fit for his stoma. 10 months of issues, leaks, ill-fitting bags and pain due to his inverted stoma! I’m glad to hear you’re doing so well, thanks for sharing your story. :D

I'm not sure I'm doing this right...my husband just came home yesterday after reversal surgery Wednesday. I think that makes this day three with first bowel movement last night and diarrhea all night since. I was wondering if you had diarrhea in the hospital before coming home and having formed stools...I'm worried and stressed...thank you
