Any experience with typhlitis?

Postby ginabeewell » Sat Dec 15, 2018 9:09 am

A routine CT scan revealed inflammation of my colon and bubbling in my abdomen, which got diagnosed as typhlitis.

I've been in the hospital since Wed and they just started me on a liquid diet last night (until then nothing by mouth). They seem a little confused about what to do: I am not in pain and my WBC is high vs low, which is atypical. Sounds like another 24 hours of liquid diet for me before they start me on solids, and I'm caught here until then.

Silver lining: the CT scan showed "unbelievable" results after 5 rounds of FOLFOX + Vectibix. My 14 cm met is down to 5 cm with lots of calcification and shrinkage throughout the liver. I will need to take a chemo break to heal from this infection and prepping to do some radiation in the meantime.

Those are great results on the chemo. Is it operable now (5 cm is still pretty big)?

No, not yet operable. But radiation while I have a chemo holiday to heal from infection. Then more chemo to get to operable, I hope!

We'll hope for the best. I just had a look at your history and it's got to be tough with four kids. Glad you have a positive outlook.
