CT scans on Wednesday

Postby DarknessEmbraced » Mon Dec 10, 2018 7:26 pm

My yearly CT scans are on Wednesday afternoon. I take prednisone and Benadryl to prevent anaphylaxis from the injected contrast. I take prednisone at 8am and 8pm tomorrow. On Wednesday, I take prednisone at 8am and take Benadryl an hour before my scans. I drink 2 cups of gastrografin mixed with juice tomorrow night then I drink one cup of the mixture an hour before my CT scans and the remaining mixture 30 minutes before my scans. I am a little concerned because I have had episodes of rectal bleeding with horrible abdominal pain at the end of July, in October and in November. I have doubled my dose of dicetel(pinaverium bromide) and will start 81mg of coated aspirin a day on the 21st for ischemia. It will take 7 to 10 days for the results of my scans to be back. I am due for a colonoscopy in 2019. I wish I could have got one sooner but my GI wanted to try the higher dose of dicetel and aspirin.

Hey Darkness,

Not sure aspirin is such a good idea if you're already experiencing bleeding.

Thank you everyone! I don't have much bleeding. I've had ischemic colitis in the past which is lack of blood flow to the colon. It's like a heart attack in your colon. My GI believes the aspirin will help the ischemia by thinning my blood. I'm not so certain. I've been having episodes of squeezing chest pain. I am having a stress test in January. I have episodes of bleeding with horrible pain. I don't have bleeding all the time.

CT scans went well. I had itchiness following the contrast injection so they monitored me. I'm fine and I believe it was because I have very dry skin.

Waiting for the results is so stressful, at least for me. It could be the bleeding is a result of the asperin... I always try to alleviate my stress by thinking what else it could be, but that is so hard, isn't it? Every common thing. For example, I seem to have constant headaches. My oncologist ordered a brain MRI. That had me worried. Most doctors just tell patients to take a pain killer. I am glad to hear that your scan went ok with no major allergic reaction!

I don't start the aspirin until the 21st so the bleeding can't be caused by it. I think it's possibly being caused by chronic ischemia colitis. Yes, waiting for results are very difficult! I am definitely much more aware of what's going on in my body than I was before surgery in 2014. Thanks Appletree! I hope that your brain MRI turned out ok. :)
