Choosing between Georgetown, John Hopkins, or George Washington

Postby CatzinDJ » Fri Nov 16, 2018 7:05 pm

I moved from west coast Washington to east coast Washington DC. I need to schedule a colonoscopy.

I’m looking for recommendations. I have one medical condition that I’m getting treatment for at George Washington and another disease where I’m will be having treatment at John Hopkins. I would prefer one of these two locations, but if someone says Georgetown has the best doc in town, I’ll schedule there.

Do you have a doctor or clinic that you like in one of these locations? If so, why?

Thanks!

When I lived in DC I went for my (checkup after cancer) colonoscopy to Dr. John Carroll. I liked him because he used a pediatric scope because of all the adhesions, and because my results were good, and everything went well, including my sedation.

Oops left out that it was at Georgetown (which is actually Medstar which hung on to the Georgetown brand) where I had been treated for cancer. I had an oncology team at Hopkins as well, but never even considered making the extra 50 minute drive. Also, back then the nurses were better skilled at Georgetown but that may be irrelevant for one procedure.
Good luck wherever you go.

Thank you for responding. I am glad to know names, it makes calling places easier.

While I have not seen him, John Marshall at GW has a great reputation as a GI oncologist. My onc is a huge fan and would have referred me to him immediately if it seemed necessary - no matter what you decide, I think you should consult with him.
