Port Removed - 1.5 years later.

Postby benben » Thu Nov 08, 2018 6:49 pm

Just finished my port removal surgery a few hours ago. :)
Piece of cake in comparison to all the other surgeries/procedures.
Took all of 20 minutes or so once the Doc got all situated. Being in 1.5 years, my body had really locked it in place.
So gave the Doc a little more work than the norm. Stitched me up and put some glue on it. 5 minutes later I was putting on my shirt and walking out the door like nothing happened.

I certainly hope I won't need another!

Congrats! You're braver than I am. I insisted that they knock me out for it!
I'm just a dude who still can't believe he had a resection and went through chemo (currently 13 years NED). Is this real life?

Thanks BS. I will send some pixel love over on the PIC thread in a bit, when my current work load gets resolved.

It's a nice step forward. I hope April comes with that granted wish for you :).

I was concerned about how I'd fair to be honest. I mean I used to be really squeamish with just a shot or blood draw, but after 1.5 years of treatment - figured I'd toughened up a bit.
It wasn't bad. It did feel weird. I did have a mental sensation that he was cutting into me like a rough steak with a butter knife at times. LOL.. I did feel some pain and he could see the grimace on my face and applied some more local anesthetic, which did the trick. I saw lots of bloodied up gauze pads, but he did a great job distracting me as most of the time we were engaged in a discussion about family trips to Universal Studios, Disneyland, and puking while snorkeling in 10 ft swells vs scuba diving.

You would think that I would have toughened up by now but I still can't handle needles or blood. I have to keep my eyes closed through everything. So pitiful!

I like those distraction topics but now I want some butterbeer!
