I liked those pudding cups and little snack packs of peaches...because you do not have to refrigerate them. Room temperature Gatoraide. Cold protein drinks I would add powdered milk to and boiling water. The powdered milk kept it from getting watered down. I also drank warm instant breakfast.
I liked small portions of scrambled hamburger mixed in with white rice.
I would get badly dehydrated and had hydration at the hospital the day of disconnect and the next 2 days.
As others have said...something to eat is better than nothing to eat...so anything that he thinks is appealing. Even if it sounds weird!
