JP Drain question

Postby Jlschueler » Sun Oct 28, 2018 8:30 pm

Hello. I have a question I haven’t seen the answer to elsewhere. I had a laparoscopic LAR on 10/17, and all went well. I left the hospital three days later and came home with a JP drain. It’s working fine and still draining about 50 consistently. However, since Friday, the side that the drain is on has been increasingly painful (radiating pain from my rib to my hip). At the urging of my nurse I went to the ER to have it checked, and they ruled out any infection and said it’s probably irritating a muscle. Has anyone else experienced this? I see my surgeon on Thursday and am really hoping he’ll take it out but not sure since it’s still draining. At this point, it’s the only thing I’m taking pain meds for, and it’s making it painful to walk and be active (which I had been prior to Friday).
