New plan for para aortic lymph nodes. No surgery, radiation instead

I would like to start this post by commenting that I've recently seen many new people posting with lymph node metastasis. I hope that this post helps those people. Yesterday my husband met for the second time with Dr Bartlett at the Hillman Center. We were told that a multidisciplinary team of some of the world's best oncologists met and decided radiation would be the best course of action to treat my husband's para aortic lymph node metastasis. This was decided because there were three lymph nodes along the chain and not just one. They feel that with radiation a larger area could be targeted for treatment, assuming micrometastassis exist in other nodes. He will continue some sort of chemotherapy we are not sure yet what that will be until we meet with our local radiation oncologist later this month. My husband is very happy with this plan because it means he doesn't have to have surgery, but can still expect a positive outcome. The doctors are very excited for my husband and really feel like this will give him at the least another long-term period Of remission. The radiation oncologist mentioned that the type of radiation used would be sbrt therapy. If I have this all straight this is really new territory for colon cancer. He told us that the treatment was developed at UPMC magee-womens hospital for initial use in gynecologic cancers and treating it for colon cancer is new territory.
