Hi All,

I have come across many threads about Stage 3 and Stage 4 survivors but don't see a lot about Stage 2.
We are newly diagnosed as stage 2 rectal cancer and need some encouragement.

Any stage 2 rectal cancer survivors that made through 5, 10, 15 years. Please come forward :)

Thank you in advance

MANY Stage II folks, not having had recurrence or progression, sadly, no longer post here
because, gladly, they are back living their life which does not involve CRC.

If the Stage III / IV survivors don't give enough encouragement ...... Ummmmm
not sure what will ????

Just get out there and live life

I hope that turns out to be the case for my husband.
I am still hoping that common iliac lymph node enlargement is just reactive. If not, my husband's cancer will jump from stage II to stage IV.

From the American Cancer Society:

The numbers below come from the National Cancer Institute’s SEER database, looking at people diagnosed with rectal cancer between 2004 and 2010.

For people with stage IIA rectal cancer, the 5-year relative survival rate is about 81%. For stage IIB cancer, the survival rate is about 50%.
The 5-year relative survival rate for stage IIIA rectal cancers is about 83%. For stage IIIB cancers the survival rate is about 72%, and for stage IIIC cancers the survival rate is about 58%.

https://www.cancer.org/cancer/colon-rec ... rates.html

These numbers are pretty old and I believe that numbers are better today than they were back in 2010 because of treatment improvements via the use of big data and better understanding of cancer.

I am stage 2a rectal cancer. I am considered 3 years NED. I was considered NED after my LAR in Sept. 2015. I did do chemo after but was considered cancer free before and chemo was clean up. I did adjuvant therapy. After chemo/radiation I had a sigmoid and all that was left was scar tissue. A pet scan showed no evidence of cancer. My pathology report from surgery did show minimal residual cancer cells, clear margins, and no lymph node involvement. I have ct scans, oncology and surgical appointments every 6 months. So far scans and bloodwork have all been good.
