Is my Mom the longest colon-cancer survivor?

Postby DRWEBMAN » Sat Oct 13, 2018 4:20 am

Today is October 13, 2018.
My Mom is 84 years and 7 months old.
At 16 years of age, she married my Dad in 1950.
She had me in 1952.
2 months before my 1st birthday and her 19th, she was diagnosed with colon cancer.
She said the device to examine her back then was borderline "medieval".
They removed 13-inches of her colon, 'cooked' her with many rounds of radiation and still told the family that she would not survive.
(She did not require a colostomy.)
My grandmother organized prayer for her through local churches and pastors.
She prayed that God would let her live long enough to raise her baby.
One day she got up, put on her clothes and walked out of the hospital.
She is now 84, I am 66 and I'm still her baby. (She still works a couple days a week.)

Do not give up hope. Prayer works!

I believe she may well be the longest-surviving colon cancer patient in history.
How can this be documented??

That's quite amazing!
I think you'd need to contact the hospital where she was treated and get her paperwork to prove it was colon cancer and what Stage. I'm assuming it was Stage 1 to 3 and hadn't spread to other organs.

Truett Cathy, founder of Chick fil A had colon cancer at the age of 38 and lived to be 93. That's 55 years. Your mom has him beat by a mile, tho. Mr. Cathy said they told him he was going to die, even after major surgery and treatment. He did the same as your mom. He got up and went home, got busy with his family and building an empire and never had a recurrence.

Congrats to your mom!
