can stage 1 colon cancer post colectomy spread to the lungs?

Postby husn0001 » Sun Sep 30, 2018 9:13 pm

how did it happen? is it common? prognosis. I had lung wedge resection of the upper and lower R lung. Pathology confirmed Metastatic colon cancer in the lungs. 2 NODULES on each lung. Treated with fOLFOX 6 mon followed by 2 radiation treatments for the two nodules on the left in April 2018. Had CT scan in May 2018 no new nodules ,stable and a CT scan Aug, no changes, no new nodules. I have been off chemo since April. How likely for the cancer to come back? what is the life expectancy for patients with stage 4 metastatic colon cancer in the lungs?.

It is very difficult to answer, but after 5 years from resection of primary tumor it is unlikely to find new metastases. If so they have grown very slowly and they are not so aggressive.

Hi,

I was stage A back in 2013 and didn’t have any mop chemo after my resection. Year 1 scan was clear, year 2 scan had three suspect nodules on my lung.

Two lung surgeries in 2016 and mop up chemo followed. I’m scanned every six months
4/2013 - Diagnosed with Colon cancer aged 35 (no family history) T1N0M0
8/2013 - LAR with temp Ileostomy
12/2013 - Ileostomy Reversal
09/2014 - Clear CT Scan
01/2016 - PET Scan high probability of reoccurance
01/2016 - VATS right lung
03/2016 - VATS left lug
05/2016 - Start CAPOX regime for 6 months
07/2016 - Clean CT scan next scan October
08/2016 - Clear MRI scan following migraines
10/2016 - Finished Chemo & Clear scan, next scan Jan

Stats show that Stage I to Stage IV is more common than Stage II or Stage III to Stage IV because the spots were probably already there and microscopic, then no follow up chemo and many have no scans. That's why many people will urge a Stage I to please accept chemo!

My liver met showed up 3 years after my original dx. I was having scans every three months at first and then every 6 months. It was not quite the size of a dime when it was found. My CEA had risen to 6.4. That was 6 1/2 years ago and I'll have a scan in 2 weeks. Ten years total on Jan. 7th.
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.
Pronounced CURED and discharged by onc
