New stomach primary

Postby LB10 » Sun Sep 30, 2018 10:04 am

Hi all,
I found this forum after I completed treatment for stage 3 rectal cancer in January 2015. I haven’t been a big poster but frequent reader and have been helped very much by everyone here.
I had a complete pathological response and was feeling confident that I was going to be a lucky survivor. Then seemingly out of no where I was just diagnosed with stomach cancer, a new primary. Just like that I’m back in a fight for my life.
The plan is for chemo then surgery then more chemo. I start on Monday. I’m having a really hard time gathering my courage to go through this again. The cancer perforated my stomach and caused an abscess on my spleen. I had a fever for 3 weeks before they figured out what was going on. I’ve been feeling ill since mid August, just getting my feet under me now in time to feel sick again on chemo.
I apologize for all the self pity here, I am just in shock and devastated. All I can see is misery ahead.
Just needed to share with people that get it. Thanks for reading.

It really sucks! But there is a plan and that’s a positive thing. A big hug and lots of positive vibes.

I don't mean this as a pat on my back...but a desire for you to fight on. My LAD artery was 100% clogged when I showed up in the ER in July 2007. I recovered, and my cardiologist says my heart is better than ever. In 2008, I was diagnosed with Gleason 7 prostate cancer.....had surgery....My PSA is now 0.01. I had a clean colonoscopy in 2008, and the gastroenterologist told me to come back in 2018. In 2014 I went to the ER for a totally unrelated matter, and I was told I had Stage 3 colon cancer. My five-year anniversary is coming up. My CEA is now 0.98. Sigmund Freud said "The goal of all life in death."
But not while I have anything to say about it, My body may want to, but my brain doesn't. So far the two of us are winning. And if something else comes up, we'll face it again. I don't give up easily. Lisa, you are a survivor. That doesn't mean in one instance, that means in every instance. I know how it is to feel like "Why Me?" and I asked my doctor why I was the only one in my family that ever got cancer. He said: "Because you are the only one that can handle it." I said "Right on." I'm still here at the moment, and my family still doesn't have cancer....so fight on, you are a survivor." Andre

Andretexas,

You have the attitude and inner fight to be a survivor. I applaud you for facing all those giants and defeating them.

As many times as you've almost been taken out, I guess it's not only cats that have nine lives.

Thank you all for your kind responses. It means a lot to hear from fellow fighters and survivors. Trying to put my big girl panties on and head to my first chemo in a couple of hours. Your words have helped me. Thank you.

I'm so sorry! It's beyond comprehension how this can happen. I'm in the same boat and completely taken aback by the experience. Hugs for healing!
