Ronnie16 - I had a low anterior resection, not a hemicolectomy, but I had similar problems four years out from surgery, and I found that eliminating certain foods and beverages from my diet helped solve the problem
What I would do if I were you would be to try to determine if there are any triggers in your diet that are making this happen. Try eliminating your favorite beverages and favorite foods, one by one, and see if it makes a difference. In my case, there are three kinds of beverages that I don't drink anymore because I know that they always cause problems. It might be the same for you.
Also, try eating smaller meals so that there is not so much bulk for the colon to handle at one time. And you might try a psyllium-based product to help firm up the stool.
EDIT:
There's also another thing I read about somewhere but I can't remember where. It said that timing of beverage consumption and temperature of beverage can make a difference: It said that, ideally, beverages should be consumed either 30 minutes before the meal or 30 minutes after the meal, but not much during the meal itself. I guess that's to try to separate the liquid part of the meal from the solid part of the meal so that the meal itself doesn't become so liquified in the digestive tract.
Also, warm beverages tend to trigger more diarrhea than cold beverages. And there might also be a problem with carbonated beverages as opposed to plain beverages.
Try different combinations and see what happens...
