Thank you for sharing. Not only is Aspirin good to prevent CRC, it is good to help prevent strokes and heart attacks according to the American Heart Association. All should consult with their doctors before taking this action.

This info has been known to onc's since at least 2009. I began taking it daily right after the end of chemo. Actually, I waited 2 weeks and had my platelets checked and then began taking it.

AND ....... just to muddy the waters a little more .....

For the record I do take 81mg ASA daily as I have had some risk factors and a family history of cardiovascular disease.
For the record I was taking ASA since LONG before my CRC diagnosis, so in my case ...
there is obviously NO evidence that is was preventive in my developing the disease

BUTT that is just me ...... N =1 !

I have been taking 81mg pill since 2010, but include one TUMS calcium tablet which may be protecting me from having stomach bleeding.

I was just going to mention that it also can cause a bleeding ulcer - which it did for me after several years. It's a tough choice - in my case it did not prevent CRC, but that doesn't mean it won't for others. Just be aware that there is a possible stomach ulcer issue.

I would love to take aspirin or nsaids just for pain relief. Unfortunately I have nephrotic syndrome of the kidneys and most nephrologists don't like aspirin and nsaids , on top of that I was dxed with atrial flutter and atrial fib in Jan this year. The loss of protein associated with the kidney problems puts me at risk of blood clots. In Jan I was put on a daily dose of warfarin to cover the heart and kidney problems. I also take cyclosporine twice a day for my kidneys. On warfarin you cannot take any other blood thinners, I am not even allowed fish oil. Unfortunately I cant get any pain relief. I have been tried on norspan and fentanyl patches and endep. I have tried lyrica and other epilepsy meds . I spent a couple of years on Targin. (oxycodone and naloxone) It was enough to let me know that I would make a lousy addict. It took 34 weeks to wean off them. Never again. All of the drugs I was on were prescribed by doctors. My previous doc tried to put me on Cymbalta. That was never going to happen. Now whenever I am put on any drugs I ask my gp "what are the drug interactions for it ?" My type2 diabetes became a concern recently when my history blood count rose to double figures. I was put on a drug called Gliclazide . For three weeks I was living in the hypo range with blood glucose below 4 mm/l. I no longer take it. We have to be very self aware of what any drug is doing to our bodies and whether they are safe for us to take. Ron.
