Encouragement

Postby Nancymaxwell » Wed Aug 29, 2018 9:28 am

For the past two years I have been turning to this site for information, encouragement, and comfort and now want to offer something in return. In December 2015 my husband was diagnosed with Stage IV CC, with mets to the liver. His CEA was over 1000. With the grace of God and the help of exceptional surgeons, he is here today. Please see the last lines of his status. Thank you all for your courage, honesty, and humor.

12/2014 Dx Stage IV CC, met to liver. INOPERABLE. CEA 1200.
Emergency stent placed in colon; port inserted
12/24/2015 (Christmas Eve) begin FofFox
Good response, CEA dropped; tumors diminished
3/2015 Surgeon feels hepatectomy now possible
3/2015 12 hours of surgery. Hepatectomy and resection of bowel with colostomy. Major blood loss. Surgery slowed. Resuscitation required
Post surgery: Ascites. Denver Shunt proposed twice but ultimately not required.
8 weeks in hospital
CEA 1.7
FolFox again
NED! CEA is tested regularly and has fluctuated within the normal range. As low as 1.6, as high as 2.9
2016 Colostomy reversed.
8/2018 NED!

Wow, that has been one wild ride so far! Congratulations on the NED status. There really is no feeling quite like being told one's body has been rid of cancer.

Welcome to the club.

Are you looking for a major cancer center? Are you familiar with MSK in New York? With having liver mets they are probably the best choice. There are many more also.
