My first visit with the oncologist I was told then there was no surgery for my condition having 17 tumors , he told me my liver would look like Swiss cheese. But a week later at my appt with my liver surgeon I was told there was potential with a good response from chemo. My CEA at the beginning was 490. So my first scan two months later showed 40% shrinkage and CEA dropped to 67. Still my oncologist told me at that appt. I know the surgeon told you there could be surgery but I don't think it will happen. He started to talk about finishing the 12 rounds of folfox then going to maintenance chemo. Two months later another 30% shrinkage and CEA dropped to 2.9. At that time he referred me back to the surgeon and surgery was scheduled. Definitely get another opinion from a surgeon if you don't like what you hear from the oncologist. Best of luck to you

Sorry to get back to you just now. Stu, I really hope you managed to get your scan read from the hospital? That alone must be pretty frustrating kOn top of what you're going through!)

Martd, your story is most incredible and I wish you many many years of prosperity and hope we can aspire to a story like yours. Thank you for reaching out.

Our oncologist is the best in our area (we live in a relatively small town) and is a very good friend of my mum's brother, so we have the privilege of having a little extra time with him and my mum likes him a lot - he's a very supportive, "no need to panic" kind of guy, which is just what she needs. I just wish he wasn't sometimes misplacing paperwork! After our first appointment he gave us back our paperwork from the hospital and when we were home we saw a piece of paper that mentioned the cancer was... Everywhere! We freaked out for a good minute then checked it carefully... It was another patient.

So yeah.... I'll want to read the printout of my mum's scan and check that the patients name is correct!

All the best to you both

We finally got to read our results - the oncologist seems very happy - there was a reduction of 3 cm to the main lesion, and the lesion in the left lobe is now 5 cm, though he says a lot of the tissue are dead cancer cells, so this is good news for us. However, new lesions have appeared in three segments of the liver, one up to 1cm in diameter, and the scan also evidenced some tiny chest spots, which our oncologist says are probably due to infections etc.

Very mixed feelings right now - our onc is saying that this is very good news, but I'm kind of terrified about the new spots.

I'm glad there was reduction in the main lesion and I hope the new spots are due to infections or another benign reason!*hugs*
