Worried wife part 2

Postby Mohrfamily » Fri Aug 24, 2018 10:09 am

So DH CEA is finally showing up around 1500.
His protein was up and his alkaline phosphate was up a little (originally 355 decreased to 155 and up to 168)
We spoke to a liver surgeon, Dr. Christopher Siegle with Cleveland clinic, so nice and informative. We have a tentative plan... A plan is a plan! All based around chemo obviously but he even said he was reacting great to treatment. If all goes well with chemo in December when he completes his 6 months they'll do an MRI review it and decide on surgery.

My worry is his weight is becoming a concern he us 6 ft 1 and last weighed 216. And the rise in protein and AP numbers any words of wisdom?
DH dx stage IV liver mets largest 6x6.4 cm
Colonoscopy/endoscopy/port place 5/29
4cm mass in splenic flexure
1st round FolFox 5/30
08/2018 new CT no new lesions, clear lungs, slight decrease in colon.
3/2019 PET scan shows greater than 6-7 liver mets largest measuring 3x3 cm. No growth nothing new.
8/15/19 largest liver lesion 1.9x2.1
9/16/2019 OSU to proceed with surgery implant HAI and colon resection
11/19 resection of colon HAI placed
2/20 CEA back to 1000s, liver worse than when we began-start FOLFIRI

Chemo can cause liver numbers to go crazy. I was receiving both systemic chemo and via the HAI pump inside me and my liver numbers went crazy last October. I was so sick for 10 days I was barely functioning, but my oncologist lowered the chemo dose a bit and everything got back to normal. I'm sure if you're oncologist thinks it's an issue, they'll adjust his dose.

Regarding your husband's weight - are you concerned he'll lose weight or gain it? The reason I ask is because chemo can cause both. Sometimes people just don't feel like eating while on it and lose weight. While others, like me, gained weight since the steroids were making me hungry all the time. Also, 216 for a 6'1" man seems about right to me depending on his build.

Hi .
I think they expect some rise when in active treatment but it reduces once the chemo stops .
My mum lost an amazing three stones and was tiny when she had her resection but gradually that has returned to a better size too .i would not be too concerned but keep hammering away at his calories.
He is responding so well . It’s so lovely to hear good news following bad .
Take care,

I put on 35 pounds on 7 months of chemo. Have taken off 26 of it after three months though the reversal had something to do with that. Fix the cancer first. I didn't feel like I had a lot of control over diet on chemo.

Thank you all.

His CEA is finally readable 1500ish . we talked to Christopher Siegle at Cleveland clinic who wants an MRI after His 6months of chemo ends in dec3mver and talk about surgery then but definitely thinking getting the colon cancer surgery done for sure whether its resect or just tumor removal I don't know. Even he said his progress was great so far!
