Math Wizards-Xeloda (pills) vs 5FU (pump)

Postby sdino » Wed Aug 22, 2018 2:53 pm

Ok so standard care on Xeloda is 2 weeks on and 1 week off. Say if you take Xeloda from Monday and end 2 weeks later on a Monday, How long does it take during the off week that Xeloda vacates your system ? 5FU pump half life is just a few hours, BUT how long is the pill form remain in your system ? and … The Pills half life ?

I think my ability to comprehend complex material has deteriorated (chemo brain?), but it sure felt like the capecitabine stayed in my system a LONG time. I felt quite ill for a solid 7 days until it was time to start the whole dang cycle again. We postponed the start of the next cycle by a day or two a couple times to help me recover and try to get my fluids back up.

Xeloda (capecitabine) has a pretty short half life. However, just because it is eliminated relatively rapidly, does not mean you should expect no side effects after that time. The drug has already "worked" and the side effects are a result of it's action. So, side effects continue for quite a while.
