I looked her up and found a very informative video of her explaining "the metabolic approach to cancer." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvnzkoCfLno My husband is diabetic again and this is all very worrying for me. But he knows what is healthy for him and what isn't. His choice.

Yes, I find her book to be very informative and breaks down the science behind why this type of diet/approach can be beneficial to some cancer patients. But honestly, the more research I do, the more I realize cancer-focused nutrition is a fickle thing. People will swear by specific diet protocols. They’ll blog about the 60+ people they know who have gotten great results going vegan, for example. But, 60 people is an infantesimaly small sample to latch on to, considering cancer affects millions each year in the U.S. alone.

I am glad my oncologist ordered a full panel to be done on yesterday’s biopsy sample. I’d like to take that information to a naturopathic or integrative oncologist and help me create a customized plan based on science-based research. Whether it’s a ketogenic, Mediterranean or vegan-based diet....I don’t really care. As long as I can reasonably follow it and there’s evidence that it could help my specific situation, I’m game.

Hi! Checking in on you! How are you feeling?????

Hey! My surgery actually got moved to the 18th, so I'm still in full on recovery mode. My surgery was robotic and laparoscopic, but I also had a Medtronic pump put in so it was five hours long. It was very successful - no internal bleeding and they didn't see any cancer anywhere else, just the one spot. Dr Kingham was very pleased. My surgery was on Tuesday morning and I got out of there on Thursday afternoon, - pretty amazing actually. My recovery was a little rough in that I had terrible muscle spasms in my abdomen, where I couldn't get out of bed without taking Ativan or Toradol. Dr. Kingham said it was because my muscles are young. They also did not give me a patient-controlled analgesic, the purpose of which was to give me a faster recovery. I had to keep asking for pain meds! But it worked. I really liked being at MSK overall, they've thought of every detail in how to care for cancer patients, even including a recreation center where doctors and nurses are not allowed :D. Now I'm home and feeling better each day. I'm walking a lot and slowly regaining my appetite. My appointment with Dr. Kemeny is on Wednesday and follow-up appointment with the surgeon is October 1.

I'm glad to see you are recovering well! I saw on another thread that you are waiting to find out if your onc recommends chemo. I would consider it for sure, even for a few months. There are likely microscopic cancer cells floating around that could become tumors. Have you done Folfiri yet? That's what I'm doing for six months (plus the pump chemo). Both my non-MSK and my MSK docs recommended chemo in my case. That 70% number scares me. It's not a fun prospect to think of doing chemo again, but I'm young, it's temporary, and I want to lessen my chances of dealing with this again.

So glad you are home and recovering! I will definitely do chemo if offered. I hope this is it...but I have some really crappy luck! I’m sure they will try a different chemo because this last lesion either grew during folfox chemo or after... I heard folfiri is wicked. Worried about my hair. I wish you the best. Keep me updated.

Update- Onc said no chemo needed! She says my Cea is 1.5 and the committee said no chemo at this time. Next scan in December. Surgeon had clear margins and my blood work is good. I’m terrified. Not sure to be happy or waiting for the shoe to drop. I will now do anything and everything to keep this Ned status. I can at least breathe.
