Any Stage 4 long term survivors/cured ?

Postby Danielito82 » Sat Aug 11, 2018 2:12 pm

Hi all,
I'm 35 yrs and last year I've been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer with 3 liver mets!
After 14th cicles of FOLFIRI + CETUXIMAB I became resectable and on the july 24th I had my operation to remove the mets !!
The surgeon was supposed to remove 3 mets , but 2 of them were only scars and 1 was gone !!
Now at the end of September I'll have a colon resection!!
In the colon the tumor is not detectable seems disappeared but the surgeon want to remove the part where it was before as precaution.
Is there any long term survivor or any person that marked the " 5 yrs all clear " with no recurrence?
Thank you

Great to hear you had a super response to chemo . You are a top responder indeed.
My mum had a significant spread to start with so not comparable but she is nine years stage 4 this week . Yippee.
Hope everything goes well with your next lot of surgery .

I have been clear for over 6 years now. My oncologist and surgeon say I don't need any more scans, just annual CEA monitoring. I was stage 4 with 6 mets to my liver. I don't think I will be comfortable with the term "cured" until I hit 10 years.
Dx 12/11 rectal stage IV w/ 6 mets to liver, age 35
4 cycles FOLFOX 12/11 to 2/12
short course radiation 2/12

ileostomy reversal 10/12
port out 10/13

Stage 4 with 1 liver met. Resolved with chemo. Three years after diagnosis I had a lung recurrence. I've been free of disease for 9+ years now. It sounds like you have had a really good response, so just know that it is possible to be a long term survivor.

Take care,
Betsy

On July 22, 2004, my 43rd birthday, I was dx'd with Stage IV colon cancer. I was given six months to live but told I could die at any moment. I signed up for a stage II clinical trial and here I am, NED and off all treatment since June of 2005.

AND I can eat popcorn.

I've been clear since liver resection of Oct 2013, despite 'palliative' diagnosis (inoperable liver mets) end 2012.
Chemo killed all mets - see sign.

Promoted to annual surveillance (CT + CEA) in June. I don't think I'm officially 'cured', but life is back to normal. No more worries.
I realize I've been lucky. Wish you all the same.
