NOT genetic... Or is it hereditary

Postby Mohrfamily » Thu Aug 02, 2018 5:49 pm

A small victory today. The results from DHs genetic test came today.

The cancer is not genetic, so he shouldn't pass it to the kids but it still opens avenues to get checked early anyway. They also tested for lynch disease, negative!

They want our daughter to be checked early for breast cancer (his mom had it and beat it) even though she is 4 never to early to plan ahead, way ahead.

I saw a genetic counselor at doctor's recommendation. We discussed testing, paid for by insurance or privately through a company called Colors(?)
She said currently preexisting conditions can not be excluded but genetic conditions for things like cancer can be. I don't know what the benefit would have been to know I would/could eventually be diagnosed with cancer. I ate healthy, exercised and live a pretty clean life, waiting for the ax to fall would have been too much. My family has a history of cancer, my dad at 80 and my brother at 27. I was 55 when diagnosed. I did all the recommended testing and when it came it came.

Just my opinion.
