I don't think you're meant to take vacations, DE. Seems to me you had some serious flareup a few years ago just prior to a scheduled vacation. They say vacations can be stressful on the body. :) I hope you go in again if your pain & issues continue on like this!

I'm surprised that you were discharged having active blood loss. Hopefully, the pain will subside and you can get back to a normal diet and enjoy that trip.
Take care of your self!

P.S. Getting a specialist appointment in the U.S. can sometimes take a while too! A lot depends on where you live.

I did have issues prior to a vacation last year and a couple of days during the vacation. Hopefully, things will settle down. I was having small clots and small amounts of blood and gas in the ER. Then I had nothing. I think because my colon was empty. Thanks everyone!

I hope you are feeling better by the time you leave for vacation. Can you do liquid protein drinks? Ensure never agrees with me, but I get a powdered plant protein that I blend with Almond milk and banana. Nutritionalist told me today to try pea milk to boost the protein content.

Can you go to your primary Dr and get fast tracked for a colonoscopy?

Unfortunately, protein drinks are expensive here. I would have to do rice or soy milk since I get anaphylaxis from tree nuts. Unfortunately, there is no fast tracking here. My family doctor is usually booked up so it's very hard to get in to see her. I will have to keep trying to get a hold of the GI's office. My family doctor would tell me to wait to see the GI. I think I'm going to only had solid food once a day in the morning and liquids the rest of the day because I have bad cramping and pain all the time.

My appointment with the GI isn't until November 21st even though I was in the ER July 31st with horrible pain and rectal bleeding. :( I knew he wouldn't take me seriously! My stomach has been awful since then!

DE, How about the turkey, rice, soy milk diet for a few days to rest. Allergy specialists sometimes recommend that b/c it is bland, highly tolerable, then advise patients to gradually add foods one @ a time to identify the problem foods. Protein drinks can firm up the bowel. If that's not what you want, maybe stay away from them for awhile. If stool firms up too much it can act as a "plug" so to speak causing liquid waste (diarrhea) to back up behind it, thus the constipation/diarrhea cycle. A real challenge to manage. Do you take Vit D to help manage inflammation or flaxseed oil capsules to aid in digestion? My DM suffered from IBS long before it was really recognized by the medical community. Colitis different I know, but she had very similar symptoms as you. Difficult to manage to be sure.

It can be a real Catch 22. Bland diets easy on the gut, yet problematic due to lack of fiber, so really have to play around w/it, which I'm sure you've done many times.

Best Wishes

I usually just end up skipping a meal or going on liquids for a day or so. I eat fish and seafood but no other meat. I have issues no matter what I eat unfortunately. I keep a food diary where I keep track of what I eat along with symptoms. I have eliminated many foods since my colon resection. I can't take vitamin D because it makes my hyperparathyroidism symptoms much worse so I avoid it. I don't really take any supplements except two chewable vitamin C once in a while. I take dicetel(an anti-spasmodic) 3 times a day and I have buscopan. I can't take buscopan too often because there's a shortage right now. I only have a few buscopan left. I appreciate the advice though. Since surgery I either have many small bms a day, constipation or diarrhea. This year I have been trending toward constipation more. I can't take metamucil(too much cramping, diarrhea), stool softners(bad diarrhea) or anything like miralax(bad diarrhea). I'm on my period which makes everything worse.

I’m sorry to hear about your ER troubles. I get sort of un nerved with these kinds of issues. I guess it scares me not knowing exactly what’s happening in there and then anxiety takes over. So when I get to this stage I take .5mg of lorazepam. Not so much that it knocks me out but enough to reduce the anxiety. Then I can try to refocus on food that I can eat without creating a problem. Sometimes it’s a cup of broth with a little baked potato blended in. Just smelling broth helps my appetite. Other times I’ll have a little Gerbers baby food, specifically pumpkin. I’ve been a dog sitter for a long time and the pumpkin for diarrhea can be the only thing that works for the puppers at times. It has worked for me too. Slows things down without going too far the other way. I really hope this resolves for you soon enough that you can travel.

I'm frustrated on your behalf, DE. Seems like your medical team has failed you. GRRRR.

Maybe try the BRAT diet? You probably know what it is, butt I'm including a link just in case. https://www.webmd.com/children/brat-diet.

Is Carnation Instant Breakfast powder available in your area? That may be more affordable than other protein drinks because of the powder. (less weight to ship?). I read a couple of the Amazon reviews on it, and a couple of people had bloating issues, butt many loved it.

Thanks for the advice Rula and peanut!*hugs* I was able to enjoy your trip to Vancouver and West Edmonton Mall despite my stomach issues. I tried Carnation Instant Breakfast but it seems to make me feel worse. Today, my stomach is in knots and I have to keep rushing to the bathroom for softer bms. I'm having a lot of rectal pain and spasms! Yes our medical system has definitely failed me.
