Moles on bum crack 2.5 years after finishing rectal cancer rad. Worried.

Postby wifeandmother » Wed Jul 25, 2018 8:49 am

Hi everyone,
It’s been a long time since I posted. My husband’s quick history was he was dx with stage 3b rectal cancer in September 2015. He did rad and folfox. His rad was finished December 2015. He is now NED.
He had his CEA taken on Monday and no call back so far so we are assuming it’s normal. We have decided to not “know” the numbers as analysing them was causing too much obsessing and anxiety for us.
The reason I’m posting and worried now, is hubby just told me he has 2 moles on his bum crack (1 is about 1 inch from anus, other is a few inches away. He noticed them about 2 months ago, although he said maybe they’ve been there longer he’s not sure. Both are smaller than a pencil eraser but slightly raised, and pinkish in colour. He saw his GP on Monday who said they looked normal, but I’m so worried they are suspicious or will change to be suspicious as that’s the area that had so much rad. My husband asked the GP for a referral to a dermatologist to be sure so we are waiting on that. Hubby has around 8 BMs a day after LAR, so also wondering if these lesions are related to so much wiping? I don’t know.

Has anyone else who has had rad experienced anything like these moles in that area? What was it? Thanks so much for any input.

Anal cancer is caused by HPV and unrelated to rectal or colon cancer. A dermatologist will biopsy and relieve your fears.
Stage III cc surgery 1/7/09. 12 tx FOLFOX
Stage IV PET = 1.5cm liver met. HR 4/11/12

14 years since dx and 11 years post liver resection.
Pronounced CURED and discharged by onc

Sorry my friend .. BUTT technically speaking that is not the whole story.
ANAL refers to an anatomical location and is usually squamous cell carcinoma .. BUTT not always,
and epidemiology suggests a higher risk with prior HPV infection ... BUTT there are also other risk factors.
Please browse this reference for a particularly well documented overview :
https://www.iarc.fr/en/publications/pdf ... -chap7.pdf

rectal / colon / sigmoid cancer ... as we all know
also refers to a location and is usually an adenocarcinoma .. BUTT not always

recent reports have elucidated a closer association between some anal cancers and the "normal" low rectal,
rectosigmoid cancers we are familiar with and would expect to be adenocarcinomas.

SO yes ... let the Docs do their thing and sort it out
and when you get the actual facts .. please let us know wifeandmother
and best wishes

Cheers all
