CHEMO? Any Stage 2a or 3 Rectal Cancer survivors that didnt do Chemo?

Postby Sammy2067 » Tue Jul 24, 2018 3:32 pm

Looking for the survivors of Stage 2a T3(c) No Mo or Stage 3 for that matter who didnt do Chemo and survived. My signature gives my history so no need to repeat here. I understand I have a few high risk factors with LVI and PNI. Im not underestimating there prognostic value for future Mets. I will probably do the Xeloda monotherapy.

Im just interested in anyone on this board didnt do Chemo and took a different path and survived? What did you do instead?

I did not do chemo and I’m now 8 years out. No reoccurrence. No regrets. I did do chemo in 2012 for ovarian cancer. I have permanent neuropathy from it but the kind of ovarian cancer I had left me no choice in doing chemo.

right hemicolectomy 3/19/10
Stage 2a 0/43 nodes
Lynch syndrome
3/14/10 colon resection/ removal of metal clips

I have a friend on another board with 2A. He started chemo but quit after two rounds as it was too hard on him and that was late last year and he's okay now but that isn't long-term yet. He did the research and made an educated choice.

My wife is 6 years NED from stage 2A Rectal 12cm from the anal verge, no high risk factors and no chemo.

2A Rectal is though to be overtreated with Chemo. There is a lot of work going on to figure out when it is right and when it is overkill.

Only you can make the decision that you can sleep with at night.

Good luck.

Thank you for the reply! A few question if you know the answers and don't mind sharing:

1. On pathology report: Was there Lymphvascular Invasion: Present? Perinueral Invasion: Identified? or Tumor Budding: Identified?
2. Was her tumor a T1-2, T3a,b,c,d

Just wondering if she has any of the above "high risk features" for future mets and Tumor number?
thanks
