Lung recurrence update- good news

I know there are several people on this board who are actively dealing with “lung thingies” or have in the past, so I figured I’d share my experience.

I had a single lung met removed via lobectomy, a piece of cake surgery in comparison with my colon/liver resection. My doctors agreed to forgo chemo for an onslaught of reasons, a decision I struggled with.

Since surgery I’ve made a full recovery, I’m able to hike, run, and work out as usual without any shortness of breath (or rather only shortness caused by two weeks of eating copious amounts of pasta in Italy, not the loss of a lobe).

Today, I had my 6 month post surgical scan and all is well, aside from my insides looking completely jumbled!

Glad it is working for you !!!!!

as a lung thang ganger from way back ... I agree
the lung surgery is WAY more manageable than the whole resection thing

Great news . Enjoy every minute . My mum felt the lung section was amazing compared to the rest .
We often laugh that some poor junior radiologist is trying to analyse my mum’s scans . No easy task .
Delighted for you,
Stu

Hi Beccashocked,
I'm new to this board - looks like I'll need a lobectomy for a central left lower lobe nodule. Which lobe did you have removed if I may ask? I've heard that lower lobe resections may have more impact on lung function than upper lobectomy because of greater oxygen transfer in lower lobes.

Jules,

I am so sorry I’m just responding to this. I had a lower left resection. Following my lobectomy my lung function has not decreased. I was able to hike and run within a month of the lobectomy and felt fine (aside from being generally out of shape).

I wanted to update this thread for anyone else facing lung metastisis. I just got my 6 month scan results back and all is clear. This puts me one year out from my lobectomy and three years out from any chemo.

Needless to say, I am feeling incredibly greatful.
