Some good, non-cancer related news

Postby AussieAssCancer » Mon Jul 16, 2018 10:33 pm

Gday butt-buddies, hope you’re all well.

It’s been a while since I’ve been on here (is that a bad thing?) but just wanted to share some good, non-cancer related news.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever mentioned what I do, but I am a prosecutor for the state of New South Wales (Sydney is the state capital).

My job involves determining appropriate charges, running hearings in our local court (no juries) and instructing Crown Prosecutors in jury trials.

I had had a fairly rapid progression through the ranks which stalled when I was diagnosed. I couldn’t apply for promotions because I couldn’t guarantee that I wouldn’t be doubled over from chemo etc etc

Last year I finally had the chance to apply for the promotion and to be blunt, I bombed the interview. I walked into it thinking that for some reason, because of my illness and how I’d dealt with it all that I was somehow ‘owed’ the promotion. Talk about a healthy dose of hubris.

Earlier this year I reapplied, and I walked out of the interview feeling good. I didn’t ace it, but I owned it and made the panel sit up and listen.

Yesterday I was formally appointed to my new position. It is a huge leap both in terms of pay, but also responsibility.

Anyways, at the risk of bragging (and I accept it is a brag haha), I just wanted to share some good news.

Cheers,

AAC

I totally agree.
We should not expect special treatment from world because of being a cancer patient or survivor.
If anything, we are likely to be considered a handicap by most hard nosed ppl.
So we have to reset our own expectation level accordingly. We have or are undergoing the learning experience of this disease. Rest of the world remains the same.
God has tapped us on shoulder not everyone.
Watched an episode of series Life Sentence on a cancer survivor on similar lines. Do watch if it airs in your area.
