As a member of kaiser who wanted a second opinion from an oncologist at Sutter, I was told that the Sutter oncologist can't see someone from Kaiser, even if it's paid for out of pocket. I'm not understanding why this is... Do you?

From what I understand, Kaiser will not pay for a 2nd opinion at Sutter unless they give you a referral for one. And I don't think they will. Butt if you are paying out of pocket, you should be able to see an Onc at Sutter. I would call up Sutter and see what they say.

Good luck, let us know what you find out,

Lee

Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about.

I would think if you told them you wanted the cash pay price, you should be able to get it done easily on your own dime. You have to pay it in full, upfront. That's what a friend does when he doesn't want to run stuff (like a colonoscopy) through his insurance ... because when he mentions insurance, the amount he ends up paying towards the deductible is much higher than the cash price without insurance. It might work for a second opinion.

Reread Disclaimer at the top

unfortunately I was told that even if I'm paying cash they (Sutter) can't see me because I'm with Kaiser has anybody ever heard of such a thing?

Do you think it's some kind of a liability concern on their part?
