I don't have an answer about brands but before you start taking it, you should take a look at the turmeric/curcumin Do Not Take If section on the MSK About Herbs website. Among other things, it could throw off the readings on a CT w/ contract scan.

Yes, I strongly support the above. It's important to look into supplements and talk to your doctor before taking anything.

Eating turmeric spice can add flavor, but it's hard for our body to absorb and we excrete is quickly. You would really need to eat a ton of turmeric everyday to get benefits from turmeric powder. At the least, standardized curcumin with black pepper extract (piperine) added to it is a good choice because black pepper can enhance absorption. From there, you can get even better absorption from hydro-soluble turmeric formulations, such as those containing gamma-cyclodextrin (a carbohydrate that attaches to the curcumin particles and helps get them into the blood stream).

My husband and I take Root2 (the 2 is superscript, so Root "squared") Turmeric Extract Curcumin Complex with Bioperine 1,160mg (one capsule even though 2/day is recommended). I used a generic brand for years but when I learned how important it was to select for bioavailability, I switched to this new brand a few months ago. When I had bloodwork in early June for my late June doctor's appointment, my inflammation levels were the lowest I have ever seen. I get my blood tested biannually and have had the same tests since 2012 (used to be quarterly when originally diagnosed with arteriosclerosis but switched to every six months around 2014). My lifestyle certainly wasn't the factor for the low inflammation and I credit the new brand of turmeric as well as addition of vitamin D to my regime about 8 months ago. Those are the only two major changes that I can think of for such a dramatic difference in my test results.
