I think your oncologist made a very wise decision .
You remind me a lot of my mum . She has a very similar attitude. I really don’t know how she endured the first couple of years whilst the disease made it’s hiding places known. But like you she sought to find the routes through it . After that it settled right down and it’s nine years ago this week since diagnosis. My sister and I are just amazed at the life she has been able to live . She loves life and remains fully engaged in it . Not past putting her words of wisdom in either . Ha !!
Entering year ten as to be filled with fundraising to give back ,
Take special care and here’s to longevity.

I had mine out at Mass General via VATS. Then I did 12 rounds of Folfox. PET in July was clear. I have another PET in October.

I wanted it out! Some Dr's like to keep it in, experiment with different chemos and do more scans. Not for me, I was adamant to have it taken out first. I am glad I did.

Mine was VATs, it was so easy compared to liver resection. Am now debating whether to go with adjuvant chemo again. I was all ok if I needed to do chemo, but when the topic of "better save chemo option as much as possible" came up, I got a bit chicken and wanted to back out....

Still thinking... What did your oncologist say?

I have to agree the thought was having that evil stuff inside you is not a good feeling. I wanted mine out soon too! But salute to you on that 12x folfox. I did 13x but I had a break in between due to surgeries ... You r strong!!!!

My once said he doesn’t think chemo will be needed but I’m sure that will change if any nodes are positive

When I was in a similar situation, I decided that I could not live with myself if I had a recurrence and had not done chemo. We are all different when we consider the options. I elected for Xeloda/Avastin (my onc's recommendation and one I felt very comfortable with.) NED since 4/09. Who knows whether or not the additional chemo helped, but I certainly don't regret that I did it.
Take care,
Betsy

lap sigmoid colectomy, 6/05
6 cycles Xeloda/oxaliplatin/Avastin (NED after 2)

NED
6 cycles Xeloda + Avastin
Avastin only 10/09-5/11

I hope your surgery was successful.
I had saved your thread & now getting around to reading it all with a reply.

Instead of just trusting my Onc, I consult with a Pulmonologist.
Since my lungs are strong: he says for me to NOT let anyone cut on my lungs. (I see at the Club that many have had successfully had thingies removed.) At this time I am doing Folfori chemo and things have shrunk dramatically. ‘Am blessed. Still all of this is scary. In 8 weeks we will measure again by CT scan; which is still an educated guess what we are seeing.

It is hard to biopsy lungs without risk of puncture. Did a Broncoscopy; but the scope can’t reach the lower lobe where scans show cancer.

Me too - wishing Tarsal69 had a good outcome.
Tomorrow my husband will have a RFA on 2 lung’things’ that had moderate SUVmax optake on PET. These mets(?) are 11mm and 8mm. We have been told that there will be a biopsi at the same time as the RFA. I asked about risks of seeding. The doctor explained the procedure and as I understand it with that procedure the risk is very low!

Yes, I had a 8mm lung nodule (that had grown to 1.2cm by the time of surgery) that was removed by VATS about a month ago. The doctor used a localization procedure (done by radiologist where a metal piece is implanted in the nodule) before the surgery. I am due to meet my oncologist on three weeks and I am not looking forward to more chemo :(
3/21/17: Dx T3N0M0-mid rectal 4.5cm
4/18 to 5/22/17: chemoradiation- Xeloda and daily radiation (25 doses)
6/28/17: clean biopsy, clean scans
8/17: MRI - no evidence of tumor, no surgery, starts wait and watch
8/17 to 12/17: Folfox
8/19 VATS - 1cm lung nodule
7/17/21- Clean CT, CEA 15.6 !
8/24/21- PET , biopsy finds met along obturator lymph nodes
10/1/21- Surgery , 12 rounds of FOLFIRI -ended 4/22
4/15/22, 9/6/22. 1/20/23- Clean scan, normal CEA
10/23- four sub-centimeter lung nodules, all PET negative
